The Chronoscout Digest: April 20-26

Nivada Grenchen stole the show this week with their ANTARCTIC EROTIC collection. And yes, that name is intentional. The six-dial lineup (Eggshell, Black, White, Brown, Tuxedo, Salmon) looks like a classic 38mm explorer watch from the front, but flip it over and there's an animated caseback showing two penguins... well, doing what penguins do. Wind the crown and the mechanism comes alive via a modified Soprod P054 movement engineered by an independent watchmaker under the alias "Dr. Coldwater."

It's a nod to watchmaking's centuries-old tradition of hidden erotic automata, but Nivada chose penguins as a cheeky reference to their Antarctic heritage. The original 1950s Antarctic accompanied the U.S. Navy's Operation Deep Freeze to the South Pole and featured penguin engravings on the caseback. The brand partnered with Oceanites to adopt a colony of 21,000 penguins, turning the joke into conservation support.

Zelos launched the Hammerhead 43 Field in Carbon, Mosaic Ember and Purple Agate. Riley Watch Co introduced the Studio Moonphase and Lumis Day/Night Dial, while Venezianico added the Arsenale Calendario.

Cheers,

Michel
